GOAL:  Today we are going to begin our word processing unit. Before you leave class today you need to know some basic shortcut commands in Word and what each one does.

  1. Get the internet on 1/2 of screen by pointing at the top of the window and clicking & dragging to the side of your window. You may need to do this 2 times.
  2. Do the following:
    1. Get into Word and type a paragraph containing 5 complete sentences or more about what you did over the weekend. Here is how you get into Word:
      1. Click the Windows button in the lower left corner of your screen.
      2. In the box type Word
      3. Click it
      4. Be sure to use proper sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation.
      5. Save the file to your Google Drive as PRACTICE:
        1. Click the FILE menu
        2. Click Save As
        3. Click BROWSE
        4. Choose your Google Drive
        5. Click NEW FOLDER & name it COMPUTER APPS
        6. Name the file PRACTICE
        7. Click SAVE
  3. Get the Practice file in  Microsoft Word on 1/2 of your screen.
  4.  Get the video below on the other 1/2 of your screen. Watch the video and do what the video is doing. Pause the video as many times as you need to keep up.

  6. Read and do the following:
    1. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the 2 key in the top row of your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    2. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the 1 key in the top row of your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    3. Double-click the first word in your file. Hold down the Ctrl key and hit the B key on your keyboard. What happened to the word you had selected?Write it down in your notes.
    4. Double-click the second word in your file. Hold down the Ctrl key and hit the U key on your keyboard. What happened to the word you had selected?Write it down in your notes.
    5. Double-click the third word in your file. Hold down the Ctrl key and hit the I key on your keyboard. What happened to the word you had selected?Write it down in your notes.
    6. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the E key on your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    7. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the L key on your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    8. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the R key on your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    9. Click anywhere in the paragraph (do not select anything) and hold down the Ctrl key and hit the J key on your keyboard. What happened to the paragraph? Write it down in your notes.
    10. Click anywhere in your document and try Ctrl-A. What happened? Put it in your notes.
